NDP Website Updates: The Good & The Bad

May 3, 2007

As most of you may know, the NDP updated its website a little bit.

Well, it was mostly graphical; the only new content is the Blogging Tools.

I’ve got to say, I’m kinda neutral about it.

The organization of the site has been improved a lot.  It is much easier to find things now then it was before; it is much easier to find out the priorities of the NDP.

The new banner at the top of the page I believe better conveys the message we need to get out there with Canadians.

But the new colour scheme – specifically the new shade of green – quite simply burns my eyes!

As for the Blogging Tools, the NDP video and the NDP banner ads are great ideas, great ways of getting the message out everywhere. An interesting thing to do with the banner ad, though, would be to have a page which lists which bloggers send the most hits to the NDP website. But I’d only do it just for fun, as that kind of thing is easily abused.

As for the templates, mixed reviews. They would be a boon to riding associations starting up a website, but for a blogger, I’m not sure that you’d want to be associated THAT closely with the NDP.  Or come to think of it, I’m not sure how good it would be for the NDP that a crackpot blogger is using their official template.

While, I guess the blogging tools are a way to help the NDP blogging community; which is much better than what happens when they usually get involved in the blogging community.

So, aside from the colour scheme, I think that the NDP website has improved.

Nice link to the McGrath suck up letter. As for the site as a whole, the posting of the link to the ND Youth in 6 point at the bottom of the page says a lot about the importance the party places on of these core activists.
