Disaster Zone Dion

September 10, 2008

On September 8th, the Liberals announce a gun ban at Dawson College, site of a shooting

On September 10th, the Liberals announce increased funding for food inspectors at Walkerton, site of water contamination.

It is just me, or does going to two former disaster zones in one week to use as a backdrop for a campaign seem kind of, well, tasteless?

You’re right. That struck me as well. One disaster zone you can get away but two starts to seem a little tasteless.

Not if it highlights the failings of the Conservative government to remind Canadians of those failures – both tragic, and to promise solutions to try to make sure neither happen again.

    Simple answer.

Walkerton = Listeria Therefore Harris = Harper

Dawson anniversary = tough on crime

    Simple math really

I think that Dion is correct to try to show a link between these tragedies and the bad policy-making that led to them. However, doing the press conference at the sites is a little questionable. The Dawson College one, in particular, I think is a little too soon. You would never see Jack Layton show up at a soldier’s funeral to promote anti-war policies.
