There Goes Dion’s Summer

June 8, 2008

Ah summer! You know, the time that Stéphane Dion was supposed to go around the country, communicate about the proposed carbon tax, and convince Canadians to vote Liberal.

Well, looks like that plan is about to go to shreds. The Conservatives were kind enough to define the carbon tax for Dion, via new ads.

Somehow, I don’t think a tour of the country by the Liberal leader is going to be very effective in countering a nationwide ad campaign. As for a more serious countering effort, well the last time the Conservatives defined something for the Liberals, the Liberals didn’t counter it seriously until it was far too late, and that was as something as “simple” as a person. This time, they got to counter a complex, incomplete tax policy.

Well, the Liberals might as well go for that election now.

The Liberals will have their own ad campaign, apparently. And, is anyone surprised here, I would have factored in a negative ad campaign immediately after hatching this idea. As a matter of fact, I take the Liberal ad campaign as proof they knew this was coming.
