Let’s Oppose

March 5, 2008

Well, I guess if the Liberals can’t bring it upon themselves to oppose the Conservatives, they gotta oppose something:

[The Liberals will] introduce a motion condemning the NDP and Bloc Quebecois for defeating the previous Grit government in November 2005, thereby enabling Stephen Harper’s Tories to win power.

[The motion] concludes by resolving that the House of Commons “condemn the irresponsible and self-serving actions on Nov. 25, 2005, by the New Democratic Party and the Bloc Quebecois which led to the installation of a government that is hostile to the rights and needs of vulnerable Canadians.”

I guess the Liberals can’t get over the fact that Canadian voters decided to vote a different party into government via a fair and open election.

I could make a crack about the NDP making opposing parties not in government look so fun the Liberals though they’d give it a try, but really I’ve got to say this looks like a pretty stupid motion.

Oh, I don’t disagree that opposition parties attack each other all the time; this is natural in our system. I see nothing wrong with NDP attacking Liberals, Liberals attacking NDP, etc for the purpose of advancing the attacking party’s goals.

But yeah, I don’t think this motion really advances any Liberal goal here. Then again, maybe the Liberal strategists know something I don’t.
