They Jailed Me With Science!

February 4, 2008

While I support what David Suzuki is trying to get at here, I think comments like this are unhelpful for the environmental cause:

[Suzuki] urged today’s youth to speak out against politicians complicit in climate change, even suggesting they look for a legal way to throw our current political leaders in jail for ignoring science – drawing rounds of cheering and applause. Suzuki said that politicians, who never see beyond the next election, are committing a criminal act by ignoring science.

Throw our political leaders for ignoring science? Yeah, that sounds fine; I mean it’s not like science has been used to justify horrible acts.

You know what might be a better statement? Voting out political leaders that ignore climate change.  At least it’s not a statement that could potentially encompass many, many things.

I really think he is talking about criminal negligence. I realize what he said is harsh but by gawd we need some passion on this! To simply let Stelmach and Harper continue on as if nothing is wrong, is crazy. I am sure the SDA crowd will go off the deep end, but the criminal negligence sanctioned by our federal and provincial governments is going to be the death of us all.

Strange. The only political party that had Eugenics as policy was the CCF which is now the NDP. Maybe science is fine just not in the hands of socialists who would use it in their pursuit of the all encompassing nanny state. Once yo control their lives you then seek to control their genes.

    T-Roy,

So the CCF/NDP was in power in Alberta to implement and amend the Sexual Sterlization Act of Alberta.

Wow, my knowledge of history of conservative political parties in Alberta must be worse off than I thought.

I wonder who was in power when the government put Suzuki in prison for being Japanese-Canadian? 😉 Hint, it wasn’t the CCF.
