The Globe and Mail reports that the Liberals might try to defeat the government in February.

Why February? Why not the Throne Speech? Or any other confidence motion before now? Or heck, even the next confidence motion?

It seems to me that nothing has really changed since the Liberals abstained from the Throne Speech, and I’m having a hard time figuring out what the Liberals believe will happen between now and February that will change the dynamic (then again 3 months is a long time).

The interesting thing, however, is that it seems that the Liberal strategic decision-making process in regards to election timing is exposed to the public (or this is a real weird trial balloon).  That alone shouts “Election Unreadiness” to me.

It also means there is some extra time to properly prepare themselves for an election, something you basically pointed out…
