Too Little, Too Late

April 18, 2007

Well, well, it looks like the Liberals have finally released a television ad – after everybody else did.

But, I don’t think that it is really going to have much of an impact.

First of all, the ad was released too late in the game. How come? Well, first of all, one must understand what the true purpose of the Conservative ads were. There were not election ad – in fact I don’t think they would have been effective during an actual election. What they were designed to do was plant the seed in everybody’s head of the idea that “Dion is not a leader”, so that when Dion performed future actions, they could connect that action with the thought seed. Looking at the blogs and media today, I’d say that the Conservative ads fulfilled their purpose well. Now if the Liberals released this ad soon after the Conservative one, then the seed implanted by the Conservatives ad could have mostly been removed. But now, its too late to do that.

Secondly, this is another ad about the Liberals and the environment. As if the Liberals have not done that before. Honestly, this continues to put the Liberals into a environmental campaigning straitjacket. I mean, the environment is a good cause, but there are other things that Canadians worry about too. You’d hardly know that Dion has three pillars: two besides the environment. The smart opposition would take advantage of this by creating a campaign that involves stuff like health care and fiscal management.

So, the Liberal ad was a good try, but too little, too late.

I don’t think they’re too late at all, NBC Dipper. The fact that those negative ads are long gone.the fact that the polls are showing Conservative shrinkage and the inability despite their spending money like a drunken sailor on the budget, on negative ads, on resurrecting environmental projects they killed, to get to their desired magic level in order to try and purposely fall. I think its a perfect time to show those ads to get people thinking again that Dion ain’t as bad as the Tories have been painting him.

I often accused the Liberals of focusing too much on the NDP the past year.. and not enough on the real enemy – that being the Tories. But with all the NDP bloggers obsessing over the May/Dion pact and being as vociferous on the Liberals and Dion as the Conservatives are.. it appears the NDP has forgotten who the real enemy is.

The fact that those negative ads are long gone.

I’m not sure about that. It’s not that hard in the blogging world and even the MSM to find a Conservative-ad related crack at Dion.

…it appears the NDP has forgotten who the real enemy is.

Would that be the Conservatives, Liberals, and the Bloc? There is a reason why you and I are not in the Progressive Unity Party today, Scott. It’s because we believe in different things. And so we in the NDP are going to point out what we believe are the glaring wrongs of the Conservatives, Liberals, and the Bloc. Hopefully, we get some votes out of it too.

    It’s called “electoral politics”

Umm, was that this week or last week? I’m guessing this week.

Since I’m running this site off the wordpress.com server, I basically have no control over the template whatsoever.

But it seems I’m facing the same problem writting this comment with Linux, Firefox v1.5.0.3.

I’ll see what kind of help I can get from wordpress support.
