Cherniak, Keep Your Personal Fights Personal

March 5, 2007

Here goes Jason Cherniak, again, trying to engulf the blogosphere with his personal conflicts.

Except this time, I’d say he’s gone too far. He is abusing his powers as moderator of Liblogs. He is trying to get Blogging Dippers to revolt.

Any Blogging Dipper with integrity should be demanding that Mr. McClelland step down from his position for this shameful display. Either that, or they should attempt to create a competing Blogging Dipper list that does not spew hatred online. I cannot believe that the members of the party of Stephen Lewis could be even remotely comfortable with Mr. McClelland acting as an unofficial spokesperson for them.

See what Cherniak is trying to do. He is using a personal argument to divide his opposition. Classic Divide and Conquer. Imagine how the Libloggers would react if Robert wrote a post asking them to create a new blogroll/revolt.

I find it even more funny that Cherniak is asking Blogging Dippers to revolt considering his history of personal attacks on them.

But Cherinak is going too far this time. He should mind his own business. It is digusting that he is using a personal argument to divide as all.

I am personally going to, and I hope every other Blogging Dipper does too, stand behind Robert and support his continued role as moderator and host of the Blogging Dippers. I am going to support a united Blogging Dippers. I am not, however, going to support every comment that Robert has made.

We are the Blogging Dippers. We decide how we want our organization structured. Not Jason Cherniak. Us!

Maybe not, Racist Bob looks like he’s gone. Something you guys should have done along time ago.

Except that now, the NDP itself has condemned Mclelland in a letter. Good. What Mclelland stated was odious, vile, and disgusting. Anti-semitism is everyone’s “business”. And if you cannot see past your nose on this, then you have a huge problem.

  3. March 5, 2007 at 12:36 pm

Perhaps you should check out what your own party is saying first.

People who believe the sorts of thing that McClelland believes do their best to turn every disagreement into a “personale issue” so as to protect themselves from criticism. It is unfortunate that you fell for his bullocks.

NBCD, that is a fine and principled post.

I wasn’t going to say anything about this mulberry because I write for a group blog that is not part of Blogging Dippers. Anne McGrath’s letter, though, looks like an escalation of a kind that I feel I have to respond to as an individual dipper.

McGrath seems to be unaware of the smears against left bloggers that Jason Cherniak allowed and in fact reinforced in comments on his own blog response to Robert. I take it that Ed Morgan, to whom McGrath appears to be responding, didn’t inform her fully about all the mud that is being slung in several different directions at the moment.

    So maybe I’ll do that.

You are correct, Northern BC Dipper. Blogging Dippers are certainly capable of running their own affairs. However, this is more than a personal argument. Fighting racism is everyone’s business.

  6. March 5, 2007 at 1:21 pm

My goodness it would appear JC has been studying PMS.

A day without a smear job is like a day without a wireless blackberry, eh JC?

    Great post NBCD!

Now, let me be clear. I do not support the comments of Robert McClelland.

But honestly, there are better ways to fight racism than to drag in the entire Blogging Dippers network, the vast majority which are not anti-semitic, into the whole mess, and this is what I am angry about.

A statement from Cherniak that Robert’s statement was terrible. Fine.

A statement from Cherniak that Robert’s is embarrassment to the NDP. Fine

A statement from Cherniak that all Blogging Dippers should revolt. Not Fine.

And I don’t know what Anne McGrath is trying to do here, and I hope that her actions don’t weaken the NDP on the internet.

  8. March 5, 2007 at 1:24 pm

The President of the NDP disagrees with you.

  9. March 5, 2007 at 1:30 pm

And the president of the NDP clearly does not get the blogosphere. She is about to get a bit of an education, I’d say.

  10. March 5, 2007 at 1:33 pm

Sorry. I will never stand behind Robert. Not only is he not even an NDP member, but he is repeatedly unnecessarily offensive and inappropriate. I disagreed with him openly on his blog and then it took him a very long time to add me to the Blogging Dippers roll. On top of this, when he posted a list of new members, I was not on it.
In short, Robert does not stand behind Blogging Dippers and he does not deserve mine, or anyone else’s support when he says disgusting things.

  11. March 5, 2007 at 1:43 pm

It’s not a question any longer of agreeing with Robert.

It’s a question of certain kinds of power games, and how bloggers respond to those.

you are being totally ridiculous by trying to make this an issue of personal animosity. this is about racism, bigotry and anti-semitism. that you would want to have this anti-semite continue to be the moderator of the blogging dippers is quite strange (to say the least).

frankly, i have always had an immense amount of respect for the ndp and their members for taking principled stands; howerver the number of dippers defending this bigot is quite disheartening. the ONLY principled stand is to denounce this prick for what he is: a bigot. those who continue to defend his statements are no better than he is, and are making their own prejudices evident for all to see.

how is this a “smear job” april reign??? you and skadadle are certainly no better than RM.

  14. March 5, 2007 at 2:08 pm

Funny. Some would say that if I were being truly partisan, I would continue to condemn the NDP for Robert and ignore all signs that he actually has no connection to the party.

Northern BC Dipp, April Reign and Skdadl, you should recognize that this is one of the best examples of multi-partisan action in Canadian politics over the last couple months. It is good people working together to weed out a.. weed.

You have to admit, the blogging dippers is quite different than the liblogs & blogging torys. The NDP definately needs to form their own political site as the Blogging Dippers obviously means something different than the NDP nickname, OR “Blogging Dippers” should change their name to something more realistic such as RM & His Fellow Dipsh*ts

” And When They Came For Me ……..”

  16. March 5, 2007 at 2:19 pm

Gimme a break. You not being non-partisan. Right. You are famous for being one of the most partisan people on the internet.

Let’s look at the facts. Robert hosts the Blogging Dippers. Robert says stuff which should be rightfully be attacked for what it is.

But, you saw an opportunity to totally knock the Blogging Dippers off of the internet, or at least divide them.

This is why I’m suspicious, and I’m kinda upset that people are tying me to Robert’s comments when I’m talking about something different.

  17. March 5, 2007 at 2:19 pm

Sorry. I’ve run into ambitious Young Liberals before, Jason. The power-play has become the subject, at least to anyone who cares about the blogosphere.

  18. March 5, 2007 at 2:34 pm

Honestly, what’s the bigger story here? The guy who runs the NDP blogroll hates Jews, or you think Jason Cherniak is upwardly mobile.

The NDP Prez has put the brakes on this. NDP bloggers will run for the hills. If it’s too partisan a thing to say that the NDP should stay away from racist punks, then call me too partisan.

Hypothetically speaking, if we REALLY wanted to be partisan, we’d say that all the remarks made by the Blogging Dippers admin up until the time of the letter from the executive accurately reflect comments the NDP are comfortable with. “Fuck the Jews” not being the least of those statements.

Headlines could run “The Jew-haters of the NDP” and list NDP blogs. We don’t do that. This is about one blogger, who has no official ties to the NDP. NDP’ers share this disgust, and they should appropriately join the new blogroll being created by their own party.

You don’t get to make this one about Jason Cherniak. He and I may be diehard tryhard young grits, but our criticisms of RM are justified. Nobody should want to be connected to this hateful blogger, and that’s not a partisan statement. He’s dangerous, and I’d say that if he were a Liberal.

  19. March 5, 2007 at 2:41 pm

“But, you saw an opportunity to totally knock the Blogging Dippers off of the internet, or at least divide them.”

No, I saw the opportunity to know McClelland off the Blogging Dipper and Progressive Bloggers. Who is there to “divide”? Anybody who would support McClelland this time isn’t worth keeping.

I don’t gain anything from this other than getting rid of an online anti-Semite. The fact that my post had any effect is a result of whatever influence I have – not a cause of more influence.

Yo – wisen up, kid. You’re an idiot.

Jason is a slimesucking lawyer desperate for the spotlight. That doesn’t make you right.

You ask, “Dammit Jason, couldn’t you have left it to the progressives to clean house?” Um, you’ve had the chance to “clean house” for freaking ages now, and none of you Blogging Dippers has bothered.

McClelland was wrong, and he’s been wrong for a while now. He’s a childish petulant disingenuous fool. If you were so keen on “cleaning house”, where were you???

Prejudice is everyone’s business. And when a prejudiced fool is saying foolish things and his colleagues are all standing around picking their noses, doing nothing, then it’s up to someone else to pick up their slack.

Gee, sorry Jason beat you to the bunch here. It’s not like NDPers didn’t have a years-long running start, though, huh?

The Left has a growing problem with anti-semitism – I back free speech all the way, and Robert can say what he wishes. But free speech also means that people who think he is an idiot get to stand up and say so, and Jason did just that.

  22. March 5, 2007 at 10:43 pm

It just staggers me that you would refer to calling someone on a really blatant anti-Jew comment as a “personal” fight.

Hey, what’d you think of Ann Coulter calling Edwards a faggot? Hope you didn’t think anything too nasty – I don’t want to be involved in your “personal” quarrels, right?

    March 5, 2007 at 10:53 pm

But free speech also means that people who think he is an idiot get to stand up and say so, and Jason did just that.

And free speech allows me to call up Jason Cherinak on his actions.

If you were so keen on “cleaning house”, where were you???

Working in the background, getting things done according to the situation. Which is much more than you can say, huh? Jason’s actions may have threatened that. Or not. We’ll see.
