Nova Scotia Places Political Donation Limits, Time For BC To Do The Same

November 18, 2006

It looks like Nova Scotia is moving to place limits to how much an individual, organization, or corporation can donate a year.

The Nova Scotia reforms are similar to the federal rules, where the amount of money one can donate is limited and grants are given to political parties based on the number of votes they receive.

It is reforms like these that take out the potential for political parties to be controlled by big money interests.

It’s time for BC to adopt similar reforms.

Oh Wait! That’s not going to happen because a certain governing party, which gets 77% of its donations from big business, is afraid of the official opposing party, which gets 69% of its donations from individuals.
