There Are Three, Only One Gets It

November 12, 2006

A petition demanding that the last WWI Veteran to die gets a state funeral has been going around like wildfire. At present:

There are three surviving veterans ā€” 105-year-old Percy Wilson and Lloyd Clemett and John Babcock, both 106…

Is it just me, or is it just a little unfair that what is being basically said here is: “Okay, if two of you die first, you don’t get a state funeral?” I think that would sort of irk me if I were one of the first two.

I don’t see why we can’t have state funerals for all three in some manner.

Honestly, if you’re dead.. how would you know?

But seriously, I wondered about this too.. I think all three should get the state funeral.

When you consider that WW1 ended in 1918 and these guys not only lived thru that they lived thru the depression of the 30’s, WW2, Korea, Cold War, think of what these guys have seen in their lives.

From horse and buggy days – before there were phones – electricity – these old boys saw it all.

Give them all the tributes you can, I say.
